The half day is not a lesser service. The editing, the delivery promise and the conversations beforehand are identical; you are buying fewer hours on the day itself. Send me your timings and I will say which one fits, even when that is the cheaper one.

Wedding photography looks expensive per day and reasonable per hour, once you know how the hours are counted. Almost every price difference between UK photographers comes down to the same few things.
The biggest single lever, and why my two prices differ by £440. A full day usually runs from mid-morning to late evening. Four hours is a different job with less work behind it, so it is priced differently rather than dressed up as a discount.
A second shooter is another professional's whole Saturday, plus their editing time on the frames they contribute. That is why some photographers charge hundreds for one. Mine is £149 because I keep it a genuine option, not a margin.
The wedding day is the short part. Culling thousands of frames down to the ones worth keeping, then editing each of those for colour, exposure and consistency, takes longer than the day itself. A very low price with a very fast turnaround usually means less careful editing, or editing sent overseas. Six weeks is what doing it properly honestly takes.
Being based in Leyland means most of the county is a short drive, which is why travel across Lancashire is included rather than itemised. Photographers covering a wider radius have to build fuel, time and sometimes overnight stays into their price. When you compare quotes, check whether travel sits inside or outside the number.
A wedding cannot be re-shot, so the kit is doubled up: two camera bodies, backup lenses, spare batteries and cards, and lighting for a dark church or a winter reception. It is replaced on a cycle because professional gear wears out. Public liability insurance is standard practice, and many venues ask to see the certificate before a photographer can work.
Timeline planning, the unlimited chats beforehand, backing your files up in more than one place, hosting the gallery, and the ordinary costs of running a business. None of it is glamorous, all of it sits inside the price, and it is much of why a day rate and a wedding price are not the same figure.
Just as important as the inclusions, and usually the part that catches couples out elsewhere. Here is what £1,063 or £623 does not cover.
Honest answer: it sits in the middle, and I have not chased either end. Wedding photography in the UK varies widely for a day’s coverage, with the spread driven by hours, experience, location and how much is bundled in.
What matters more than where a number sits on that scale is what the number contains. Lower headline prices often come with a capped image count, per-photo charges, files sold back to you separately, or a three-month wait. The only fair comparison is like-for-like.

If a cheaper quote includes all of that, it is genuinely cheaper and you should take it.

A deposit secures your date, with the balance due before the wedding. It comes off your total, so it is not an extra charge on top of the £1,063 full day or £623 half day price. Until a deposit is paid, the date stays open to other enquiries.
No. Travel anywhere in Lancashire is included in the price, whether that is Leyland, Preston, Chorley, the Ribble Valley, Garstang, Longridge or the Fylde coast. Weddings outside Lancashire are by arrangement and quoted before you book. There is never a surprise mileage line added afterwards.
There is no fixed number and no per-photo charges. You get every image from your day that is worth keeping, fully edited, in one online gallery you can download, print and share. The count depends on how long the coverage runs: a full day produces far more than a four-hour half day. I would rather deliver the right photographs than pad a gallery to hit a number.
Your full gallery of fully edited images is delivered within six weeks of the wedding, on both the full day and the half day package. You also get a small sneak-peek set well before that, so you have something to share while everyone is still talking about the day.
